For over 60 years, the members of West Charleston have been serving the Children of the Kanawha Valley and the World. The West Charleston Kiwanis club supports many local and global causes We provide scholarships to help students going to college or post high school education. We sponsor Key Clubs in four high schools in the valley, Capital High, George Washington, Hurricane and Nitro . These Key Clubs themselves have provided many service projects throughout the valley. We support the K-Kids Club at Edgewood Elementary. We provide new clothing at Christmas for elementary school kids from three West Side elementary schools.
Kiwanis empowers communities to improve the world by making lasting differences in the lives of children. Kiwanis strives to be a positive influence in communities worldwide — so that one day, all children will wake up in communities that believe in them, nurture them and provide the support they need to thrive. Our Kiwanis club fulfills the Kiwanis mission by serving our community through Kiwanis Community Service Projects
Kiwanis Service
Service is at the heart of every Kiwanis club, no matter where in the world it’s located. Members stage approximately 150,000 service projects and raise nearly US$100 million every year for communities, families and projects. By working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone.
President Betty and Hands On Service with West Side Kids
Our Kiwanis club focuses on changing the world by serving children, one child in our community at a time. To reach more people and have a greater service impact on their communities, many clubs sponsor a Kiwanis family club — K-Kids for primary school children; Builders Clubs for adolescents; Key Clubs for teens; Circle K clubs for university students and Aktion Clubs for adults living with disabilities.

On March 22, 13 Uganda children and members of Dance of Hope arrived in the US to embark on a cross-cultural education tour to NY, VT, IL, PA, NC, GA, WI, WV, NH and NC. This tour is organized by World Bridge Foundation, a 501 (c ) 3 non-profit dedicated to creating opportunities for children through organizing tours that all children from underprivileged communities showcase their skills as they raise funds for education.
While on tour, our van broke down in Rochester, NY where we got it fixed but a day later it broke down again in Ohio. We fixed it again and 2 weeks later on our way to Charleston, WV it broke down again 20 miles before reaching.
We have one month left on our tour but we do not have a car. Our van is not repairable so we need to get another one to complete the tour and also be able to do our future tours. There are a lot of schools and children in the US that don’t have any access to the arts, and there are a lot of vulnerable children in Uganda whose lives are transformed by this program. Having a tour van will allow us to continue bringing these programs across the US.
In 2018, Dance of Hope toured across the US and reached over 45000 children. We bring our programs to schools, community centers, festivals and spaces where children that don't have access to the arts can have an opportunity to connect with other young performers.
Our current tour ends June 1st and the next tour will be September - November 2023.
We are reaching out to any friends and well wishers to support us in getting another van so that we can fulfill the dreams of these wonderful children that we passionately support.
A single voice can create a ripple effect. Imagine what the collective power of the youth could do. And no matter where you are in the world, everyone can be a part of this global movement. 15 young p...
